After a day powometer always stops with this error (see below). What is wrong?

Hi, have just found your wonderful software after finding some limitations with the Holmes software. I have a grid tie solar power system and at the moment I monitor the solar output on the Wattson display and the export to the grid on Powometer. Is it possible to have two sets of data on the one graph (that is, the generated solar and the exported power)? I cannot see anywhere in the options that allow me to graph generated power.

I'm trying to setup the graphs on my own website by copying code.

Neither seem to work quite right the code I have is below but it's not doing what it says on the tin ;)

i have a power monitoring system ie.CC128 envi wireless energy monitor.this is a clamp meterlinked to wireless transmitter. to reciever in a different area.does anybody know if powermeter will be compaterble, or not. thanks mickthorpe1942

holmes not retreiving watton data (15 replies)

My wattson shows my power usage. Holmes display the current watts usage up the top left hand corner of the screen. but it says NO DATA. I've been trying for a month now.
I'm using XP and have tried on 2 computers.
any suggestions please?
So i thought i would try Powometer - but i get an error message - could not find file c:\documents and settings\mike\application data\powometer\data\powometer.sdf
Any suggestions for either problem ?

Hi all,
When I try to install the program (version 6) i get the message
"This advertised application will not be installed because it may be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user interface option of the package to basic"
Anyone got any ideas? I am logged on as Administrator and I am running XP Home. I have tried to install earlier versions as well with no success. I have looked in admin console etc to see if I can change anything without success. I really would like to use this app as I find the Holmes app restricting. Thanks in anticipation.

There are sections for Current Usage, Averages and Finances on the Powometer screen.

What about a section for Peaks? For example, the peak current draw for the Last hour, Today, Week and Month (and perhaps All Time)?

Knowing what the max current draw has been over the period will greatly assist in determining the specs of the required solar invertor, battery capacity etc of a solar generator system.

Will Powometer extract renewable energy data from Wattson? I haven't installed my solar power yet, but intend to once I've used Wattson/Powometer to size my usage. So I can't test whether Powometer can view the renewable energy generated.

Anybody out there measuring renewable energy generation on their Wattson and viewing it in Powometer?

Thanks Crispin for your innovative work. I did not realise Holmes was throwing away away so much data until I hooked up Powometer. Powometer kills the Holmes software that comes with Wattson. Anyway, now I want to do more with the data.

Powometer logs its data into SQL Server Compact Edition in an SDF File.

I want to query the database from other applications, but I believe the SDF is not multi-user enabled?

Is there a way to log into an Express Edition of SQL Server or perhaps even mySQL? Or perhaps somebody knows another alternative?

Hi there,

Recently changed from Server 2008 to Vista x64 and have trouble installing and running Powometer, latest version 0.0.5. The OS is a new installation with.net up to date with no previous install of Powometer. The error I see is attached to this post - this is when I try to run Powometer after installing it.

Me Wattson's gone mental again, it's not done this for a very long time.

Freezes after a few minutes, and if you try and download data with Holmes, it definitely freezes and timeout downloading data!

Not too sure, if it was because I was playing with What Ifs!!! (although it has done this in the past, usually leave it off for 7 days, for batteries to run-out, and the it seems to work again!)

The energy gauges do not show up when using IE8, have to revert to IE7 and below compatability mode for gauges to display. Also cannot log in under IE7/8 at all, however login is fine using Firefox 3.0.7.

Someone recently pointed out that their tariff does not fit Powometer.
They have the following:
n units per period @ rate 1 during the day.
after n units is used, they go to rate 2.
regardless, they have a nightly rate of rate 3 per unit that has no baring on the day usage.

If this is the case, then it does not fit as PM only has econo 7 or dual rate (with no start and end times).

Because of this, I was curious to know what other types of tariffs people have and how they work in Powometer.

So this morning I noticed Powometer looked a bit wonky. It would appear the time change had an effect. The usage is still being collected but displayed in GMT and not local time. This causes the graph to be one hour out. I'll publish a fix today (0.0.5). Watch this space...

Hello all,

it seems my Wattson does not store information all the time. When connecting Powometer to Wattson, I seem to be getting the correct data for that specific moment. If I now unplug it for a few minutes or even hours and connect Powometer again, a whole range of data is missing (just one line running from the last measured moment to the current moment, cfr. screenshot). I experience the same behaviour when using Holmes.

Did someone experience the same problem before? Also clicking the "Maintenance > Force Wattson History Collection" does not help. And reply from Wattson Support seems to be rather slow :-s

This may be my memory going iffy, but I think the first time I connected Powometer to Wattson it automatically downloaded the data it could. As far as I can see, connecting it subsequently doesn't download any data - it simply reads the real time stuff. Is there a way of forcing a read to catch up the history?

Hi, I'm getting an "over use" error everu now and again stating values have been rounded. (see attached screenshot)

Is this something I'm doing wrong?

I have 10.827 pence per unit and standing charge of 47.010 set.

I've just bought a Wattson and downloaded your Powometer since I want to do my own data analysis. I downloaded version 0.0.3 today - the exe shows a version number of 1.0.3.0 dated 12/03/2009 23:42. On 2 of my computers, it fails to run, giving an "Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll'" error. This was on a pretty standard XP Pro laptop, and a Vista 64 machine with Visual Studio 64 installed. I'm assuming that you're using SQL Compact Edition and there's a file from that not included in the install?
